  33. I have done a bit of RS-232 debugging...the steps
  34. that I would try would be:

  36. 1)  On the desk-top, connect pin 2 to pin 3 and
  37.     see if the characters will echo on the
  38.     screen.  (I have used a bent paperclip
  39.     for this more than once, but I would
  40.     recommend a properly wired connector.)
  41.  
  42. 2)  Try a different terminal emulator to see if
  43.     there is a conflict with the port.  (Is
  44.     it possible that another process has
  45.     control of the port on the desk-top?)
  46.  
  47. 3)  Try connecting the note-book to a different
  48.     computer to see if that would work.

  50. 4)  If the cable was not and "off the shelf"
  51.     purchase, check the pin connections.
  52.     Make sure that they go to the correct
  53.     pins.

  58. wire is bad, (3) handshaking is preventing the data
  59. from being transmitted, or (4) something else has
  60. control of the port, and is not allowing Kermit
  61. to operate properly.
